The Occasional Unraveling

You might think I’m the kind of girl who has her stuff together. I like to imagine myself as fierce, strong, independent, and I occasionally live up to my fortitudinous aspirations. Other times, the wear and tear is too much too quickly, the threads stretch and spread, and I begin to unravel a little. In the struggle to bolster myself and get back on track, I typically turn to music and can only think in lyrics.  So today as I recover from yet another disappointment in a quick succession of letdowns, I’m dusting myself off to the beat of Greg Laswell’s “Comes and Goes (In Waves).”

This one’s for the lonely
The ones that seek and find
Only to be let down
Time after time

This one’s for the torn down
The experts at the fall
Come on friends get up now
You’re not alone at all

And this part was for her
And this part was for her
This part was for her
Does she remember?

It comes and goes and waves
I…

This one’s for the faithless
The ones that are surprised
They’re only where they are now
Regardless of their fight

This one’s for believing
If only for its sake
Come on friends get up now
Love is to be made

And this part was for her
And this part was for her
This part was for her
Does she remember?

It comes and goes in waves
I…
Am only led to wonder why
It comes in goes in waves
I…
Am only led to wonder why
Why I try

This is for the ones who stand
For the ones who try again
For the ones who need a hand
For the ones that think they can

It comes in waves
I…
Am only led to wonder why
It comes and goes in waves
I…
Am only led to wonder why
Why I try

  1. Whenever I feel like the world is beating me senseless with a very large stick, I dust myself off with Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.” It’s a good song…maybe you have a gift from iTunes…hint hint. 🙂
